Meet Miles G. Wilson

A Champion for Minneapolis Ward 5

Miles Wilson is a proud lifelong resident of Minneapolis' 5th Ward, where his journey of service and leadership began. Educated in Minneapolis Public Schools, Miles attended Parkview Elementary, Anwatin Middle School, and Southwest High School, where he developed a deep connection to his community. As a youth, he actively participated in programs like the Police Athletic League (PAL), Teen Teamworks, Voter Registration Canvassing, and the Minneapolis Youth Congress. As a senior in high school, Miles made a lasting impact by spearheading changes to the school disciplinary policy, showcasing his commitment to equity and fairness early on.

After graduating, Miles pursued a degree in Business Management from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He then returned to his hometown to launch his professional career as a Contract Analyst at Voya Financial. Despite his corporate responsibilities, Miles remained steadfast in his dedication to serving the community.

He joined the boards of the Unity Community Mediation Team and CAP-HC and chaired the Young People’s Task Force Organization. Under his leadership, the task force organized transformative events like Fishing for Freedom, A Day on the Farm, the Back to School Backpack Drive, and the Holiday Toy Drive. Miles also played a key role in advancing youth rights by helping pass legislation to protect juvenile DNA (HF3063). As part of the Unity Community Mediation Team, Miles has worked closely with Minneapolis Police Department leadership to enhance accountability and improve policing practices. This includes overseeing and supporting the implementation of a mentorship program through the Police Community Relationship Council, designed to help new officers, cadets, and Community Service Officers (CSOs) build stronger connections with the neighborhoods they serve and gain a deeper understanding of the communities they protect. Now, Miles is running for Minneapolis City Council to represent Ward 5, fueled by his passion for fostering safety, opportunity, and vibrant community life. His extensive experience in community engagement and his proven ability to bring about meaningful change make him a strong advocate for the residents of North Minneapolis.

Miles’ deep roots in Ward 5 are a cornerstone of his identity. He is the eldest grandson of Ray and Doris Eiland, who were trailblazers in diversity and inclusion. Ray Eiland, a respected Affirmative Action Director at Pillsbury Co., served as one of Minneapolis' first Black Civil Service Commissioners, championing hiring equity and fair representation in city government. Miles also honors the legacy of his paternal grandparents, Tubal and Lena Wilson, who immigrated from Jamaica in the 1950s. As a tailor and homemaker, they built a life in Minneapolis’ Regina neighborhood, instilling family values of hard work, integrity, and a commitment to improving quality of life.

Miles Wilson stands ready to bring his passion, experience, and vision to the Minneapolis City Council. He is committed to creating a safer, more equitable, and vibrant Ward 5—a place where every resident can thrive.
